Our goal is to breed family friendly companions. This starts well before each puppy is born, as we ensure that each dog we choose to breed has the perfect temperament to pass on to their puppies. When I imported Bamse this summer, I flew over to Finland and personally met Totte. He was friendly and outgoing, similar to Bamse, and he will complement Finley's personality very well for these puppies.
The puppies are born and raised inside our house - this litter has been in our family room since day 1. There, they are exposed to all of the sights, smells and chaos from a large household, and they are interacted with almost constantly.
In addition to them just being exposed to every day household living, we start nail trimming and grooming early, handling their ears and feet early so that they have a great foundation for when they go to their new homes.
At Stone Fence Farm, our goal is not to get the puppies out of the house as soon as possible; our goal is to create a healthy developmental environment for the puppies and then work with the individual families to find an adoption date that meets the puppy's individual needs. We never separate the mom from her puppies prematurely, as she'll help teach the puppies invaluable lessons about interacting with other dogs, and we make sure that each puppy is set up to be successful when they go to their new homes.
For puppies that are being shipped, we require that they be at least eight weeks old, and will insure that the puppies will receive a lot of daily attention from each of our family members so that they are exposed to men, women and children.
Our puppies come with their first set of vaccines, they have been dewormed, gone on car rides and have been exposed to life in a home, started potty training and been introduced to a crate.
We give every puppy a few toys and/or a blanket that smells like their mother and siblings to help ease the transition to their new homes. Your puppy may need to get up and potty in the middle of the night for the first few nights, and they may cry a bit as they adjust to living in their new homes, but this is normal. They should be supervised closely to help with potty training, as the more consistent the schedule is, the faster they figure that out. We will also send everyone one home with some of the food that they've been eating so that if you transition them off of it, you will have enough to do so.
