Like many people, our love affair with the Golden Retriever began with the traditional American Golden Retriever - reddish, fun loving and affectionate.
What first drew us to the European Golden Retrievers was their beautiful colors, blockier heads and sturdier confirmation. As we studied more, we became intrigued by the better health and longer lives enjoyed by Golden Retrievers in Europe.
Investigating various breeding programs in the US left us with more questions than answers. We were interested in tapping into more of a European line and experiencing the better health outcomes. Eventually we met up with (and visited) Karvin Kennels in Finland.
After our last litter in 2012, we decided to take a break. While we loved our program, raising children and dogs can be quite difficult. After this hiatus and the departure of many of our dogs, we decided to return to breeding, this time with golden retrievers as our focus. Our children are now older and readily invested in the well being of your puppy.
We have done extensive research on goldens. It is common knowledge that goldens have a high risk of cancer. However, that being said KK, one of our darlings, passed away at the age 13. Clover also lived a long and happy life. We looked at her lineage when deciding on our next puppy and through research, found Finley.
European Golden Retrievers not only live longer, but they also have a lower risk of cancer–almost half that of the American golden. Heath testing of the parents can be seen on the Puppies and Parents page.
